Irish Soda Bread

Taken from an ad for margerine many years ago. this is a quick bread version.

Ingredients
- 4 cups all- purpose flour
- 1 Tabl. baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup marg.
- 2 cups raisins
- 1 Tabl caraway seeds
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 1/3 cup buttermilk
Preparation
Step 1
Blend together flour, sugar baking powder, salt, & baking soda. Cut in marg until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add raisins, caraway seed, buttermilk and egg, stir until blended. Knead on floured board until smooth. Shape into 2 balls. Place in 2 greased 8" pans. flatten to fill. Cut deep cross in top. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
