Ingredients

  • Apple Filling
  • 6 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp hard margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup cold milk

Step 1

Apple filling:

put first 4 ingredients into large saucepan. Bring to boil on medium-high. Reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered for 5 - 7 minutes on medium until apple is tender. Turn into greased 1 1/2 quart (1.5 L) casserole. Keep warm in 400 degree oven while preparing topping.

Topping:

Measure flour,sugar, baking powder and salt into medium bowl. Cut in margarine until crumbly.
Add milk. Mix until just moistened. Drop by spoonfuls over hot apple mixture. Bake, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes until wooden pick inserted in centre comes out clean. Serves 6 to 8 people.
