  • 2 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 lg. onions, chopped
  • 1/4 c. chopped green bell pepper (opt.)
  • 1/4 c. white vinegar
  • 1 c. V8 vegetable Juice or tomato juice
  • 2/3 c. catsup
  • 2 T. sugar
  • 2 T. Worcestershire sauce



Step 1

In a large frying pan or Dutch oven, cocks the meat and vegetables over medium heat until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes. Stir in the V8 juice, catsup, sugar, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce; simmer, uncovered, over low heat for 2 hours. The mixture will resemble spaghetti sauce. (Remove the lid during the last half hour of cooking if it seems too thin.) Yield: 8 to 10 servings.
Note: The sauce will keep for several days in the refrigerator, freezes well, may be reheated in the microwave.
