  • 48

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter (note: do not use diet margarine)
  • 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 4-ounce package sweet baking chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 ounces vanilla-flavored candy coating
  • 1 teaspoon shortening

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a mixing bowl beat margarine or butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 seconds or until softened. Add about half of the flour to the margarine. Then add the sugar, melted chocolate, eggs, baking soda, and salt.

2. Beat until thoroughly combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Then beat or stir in the remaining flour. Stir in chopped nuts. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are set. Remove the cookies and cool completely on wire racks. In a small heavy saucepan melt candy coating and shortening over low heat, stirring occasionally. Drizzle over tops of cookies. Makes about 48.
