Earthquake Cake

  • 1 box german chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped nuts.
  • 1 (3.5 oz.) can sweetened flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1 box (1 lb.) xxx sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Grease 9 to 13" cake pan. Prepare cake batter according to package. Cover bottom of pan with nuts and coconut. Pour cake batter on top.
Melt butter in a bowl, add cream cheese and confectioner's sugar; mix til well blended. Spoon over the cake batter. Bake for 40-45 minutes. Temp. according to cake directions.
Note: You cannot test for doneness with a cake tester as the cake will appear sticky even when it is done. The icing sinks into the batter as it bakes, forming the white ribbon inside.
