Brussels Sprouts - Maple Syrup and Bacon

By

Ingredients

  • 1 large handfull Brussdels spriuts
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 slice bacon
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1/4 tea. fresh rosemary, removed from stems and chopped
  • 1/4 tea. fresh thyme, removed from stems and chopped

Preparation

Step 1

Trim root end and remove any wilted leaves from brussels sprouts and slice, lengthwise, in half.

Heat a saute pan on medium heat. Cook bacon slice until crispy, remove from pan and drain on a paper towel., Reserve the bacon fat in the pan.

Add sprouts to the same pan with remaining bacon fat, season with salt and pepper and add chicken broth. If the pan is too dry, add a pat of butter or more chicken broth. Add syrup, rosemary and thyme and let roast for another 10-15 minutes, until sprouts are tender but not mushy. Again, if the pan gets too dry, the syrup will burn, so add a splash more chicken broth if necessary. Transfer to a plate or bowl. Crumble the bacon and scatter on top.
