  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 small can undiluted evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

combine brown sugar, nuts, butter and cinnamon; set aside. cream shortening, sugar, and vanilla throughly. add eggs, one at a time, beat well after each addition. sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt together. combine evaporated milk and water. stir in vinegar. add flour mixture alternately with evaporated milk mixture to creamed mixture, blend well after each addition. turn half the batter into buttered 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. top with brown sugar-nut mixture. spread with remaining batter.

bake in slow oven, 325, 45-50 minutes.
