Ingredients

  • 3/4 C shortening
  • 1 C packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 C molasses
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 2 t baking soda
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 t ground ginger
  • 1 t allspice
  • 1 t nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

Cream together shortening and brown sugar.

Stir in egg and molasses and mix well.

Fold in dry ingredients and stir.

Cover and chill for until firm 1-2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350.

Roll dough into small balls and roll balls in white sugar.

Place coated balls on lightly greased (I use cooking spray) cookie sheet.

Bake for 9-10 minutes.

Allow cookies to set on cookie sheet until set, then transfer to wire rack to finish cooling.
