Ingredients
- 3/4 c. Hershey's Cocoa
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 3/4 c. all purpose flour

Step 1
Stir together cocoa and boiling water until smooth: set aside. Cream butter, sugar, vanilla and salt in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs: beat well. Stir baking soda into buttermilk; add alternately with flour to creamed mixture. Blend in cocoa mixture.
Pour into two greased and was paper-lined 9-inch layer pans or 8-inch square pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes for 9-inch pans or 40-45 minutes for 8-inch pans or until cake tester comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes: remove from pans. Cool completely: frost as desired.
*To sour milk: Use1 T. vinegar or lemon juice plus milk to equal 1 cup.
