Croation Cookies

Ingredients

  • DOUGH
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 lb butter
  • 1 1b cottage cheese, drained
  • FILLING
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 lb walnuts, ground fine
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • powdered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

cream butter and cottage cheese. Gradually add flour until mixed. Refrigerate 1 hour.

For filling: Beat egg whites until stiff, add sugar gradually. add cinnamon. Stir in walnuts.

Pinch off dough the size of golf ball. Sprinkle granulated sugar on surface and roll dough out. Turn dough over on sugar a couple of times. Do not let stick to surface. Use more sugar as needed. Roll to 1/8th inch thickness. Cut into 2 x 2 inch squares, place 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of filling on each square. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. Do not overbake. These will not look browned. Immediately remove from cookie sheet and roll in powdered sugar. After cookies cool and before serving, I roll once again in powdered sugar.
