RED VELVET SUGAR COOKIES BARS

Ingredients

- 3 1/3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened Dutch processed cocoa
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons (one 1-ounce bottle) red food coloring
- Frosting
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Sprinkles for decorating

Preparation
Step 1
For the cookies:
1.Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray with a non stick cooking spray a 13×9 pan.
2.In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.
3.In another large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and creamy, about 2-3 minutes Beat in the eggs then vanilla and red food coloring. Gradually beat in the flour mixture until a dough form.
4.Press the dough evenly into the pan. Bake about 20 minutes or until the edges start to pull away and a toothpick comes out of the center with very few crumbs (it may be red because of the coloring). Cool completely.
For the frosting:
1.In a large bowl, beat together the butter, powdered sugar, and salt until creamy. Add the vanilla and beat on high until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Spread onto the cookie bars and decorate with sprinkles.
