Buck's Sourdough Starter (Grady Spears)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups warm water
  • 1 pkg instant yeast
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 cups all purpose flour

Preparation

Step 1

Fill a large crockpot or large bowl with the water. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it dissolve for 4 minutes. Using a long spoon or whisk, stir in the sugar and the flour. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature at least 12 hours.

Once you begin using it, it must be fed and replaced. Add the same proportions of flour, sugar and water to the existing starter after taking some out. For example, if you use half, replace with 2 cups water, 1/2 cup sugar and 3 cups flour. Blend the new ingredients and set aside.
