Ingredients

  • Buttermilk Biscuits
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup soy milk
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan margarine

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450°F.
Stir the vinegar into the soy milk and set aside for 5-10 minutes to curdle.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in the shortening until
mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir the melted butter into the curdled soy milk. Add the liquid to the dry ingredients and using your
hands, gently mix just until moistened and dough comes together in a ball.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Flatten out with hands to 1” thickness. Cut with a
floured 3” biscuit cutter. Place 1” apart on an un greased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or
until golden brown. Serve warm.
Note: Makes 8 biscuits.
