Soak beans overnight in cold water. Drain beans and place in crockpot. Brown ham hocks or country ham in a little oil (or crisco) and place in pot with beans. Add water, onion, chili powder and oregano. Stir well. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cook on high 5 hrs. or low 10 hrs.
