Crockpot Pinto Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dry pinto beans
  • 1/2 lb. ham hocks (or country ham chunks)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Preparation

Step 1

Soak beans overnight in cold water.

Drain beans and place in crockpot. Brown ham hocks or country ham in a little oil (or crisco) and place in pot with beans. Add water, onion, chili powder and oregano. Stir well. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cook on high 5 hrs. or low 10 hrs.
