  • Glaze icing:
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  • Green food coloring, if desired
  • Colored sprinkles, if desired

Step 1

In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar and egg together. Stir in vanilla. In a medium bowl, sift flour and baking powder together. Add to butter mixture. Stir until ingredients are combined. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and chill for at least an hour. If chilled overnight, let set out for an hour at room temperature before proceeding.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake cookies for 5 to 7 minutes, or until just browned on edges. Cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes, then remove to cooling rack.

Glaze: Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar and milk. Add two or three drops of food coloring; if desired. Whisk until smooth. Keep glaze on very low heat while glazing cookies. Place cookies on wax paper or on wire rack while glazing cookies; glaze will have a syrup-like consistency and will run, but will harden on the cookies in a few minutes. Top with sprinkles if desired.
