Ingredients
- 1 cup of boiling water
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup butter, creamed or sub ( I used 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 soy margarine
- 1 cup sugar (coconut nectar is what I used)
- 2 eggs
- 3 tsp cocoa
- 1 3/4 cup flour regular or gf
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup almonds, chopped (reg or salted)
- 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 350F
2. Pour boiling water over chopped dates and baking soda, mix and let sit for at least 10 minutes
3. Meanwhile cream butter with sugar
4. Add eggs and cocoa and mix well
5. Add flour, salt, vanilla, and date mixture and mix well.
6. Pour in greased 9x13 pan
7. Top with chocolate chips and chopped almonds
8. Bake for about 35 minutes (original recipe says 45-50 min, but I found that to be too long)
