Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine (softened)
  • 1 cup light or dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup light molasses
  • 2 cups uncooked quick oats
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Lightly grease cookie sheets. Resift flour with salt, baking powder, baking soda, and spices.

In a large bowl with electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and egg together well. Blend in molasses, then flour mixture and oats. Stir in 3/4 cup walnuts.

Drop by quarter cupfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets, allowing room for spreading, and flatten slightly. Sprinkle top with remaining walnuts.

Bake above center oven position for 13 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Let stand on sheets for about 5 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
