Herbed Buttermilk Dressing

This versatile dressing can be made with fresh or dried herbs, with or without your favorite blue-veined cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 2 tbsp minced onion
  • 1 tsp fresh (or 1/4 tsp dried) basil leaves
  • 1 tsp fresh (or 1/4 tsp dried) oregano leaves
  • 1 tsp fresh (or 1/4 tsp dried) rosemary leaves
  • 1 tsp fresh (or 1/4 tsp dried) savory leaves
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
  • 1 cup Homemade Mayonnaise (recipe in collection) or purchased mayonnaise
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 8 ounces blue-veined cheese, crumbled (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium-size bowl, combine buttermilk, parsley, onion, basil, oregano, rosemary, savory, and garlic; let stand for 5 minutes. Beat in mayonnaise; season to taste with salt and pepper. If made ahead, cover and refrigerate for up to a week. Just before serving, gently stir in cheese, if desired.
