Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup chilled butter
  • 1 tablespoon chilled shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Preparation

Step 1

To food processor add flour, sugar and salt. Add chilled butter and chilled shortening. Pulse this 3 or 4 times for 2-3 seconds each time until mixture is crumbly.

In small bowl, blend egg yolk and water. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the flour mixture in the food processor and pulse this 2-4 times, for 2-3 seconds each time, until mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl and clings together.

Remove dough from the processor, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Flour work surface and rolling pin when working with the dough. Roll to desired size.
