Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- dash of salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preparation
Step 1
1.Preheat oven to 350°.
2.Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in medium bowl; set aside.
3.Beat butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar and confectioners sugar in large bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla until blended. Gradually beat in flour mixture just until blended.
4.Shape dough into 1-inch balls, then roll in remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar; arrange on ungreased baking sheets, 2 inches apart. Flatten each with the bottom of a glass.
5.Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are slightly golden. Cool on wire racks.
