Ingredients
- Glaze:
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- Milk
- 7 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup crushed corn flakes
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
Shift together the flour, salt and shortening. Cut in with a pastry blender until it resembles course meal. Combine 2 eggs yolks slightly beaten and enough milk to make half a cup. Slowly add milk mixture to flour mixture. Mix just until dry ingredients are moistened. Divide dough in half, roll one half into a rectangle about 12 x 17. Place on a greased 15 x 10 jelly roll pan bringing pastry up the sides. Sprinkle over pastry 1 cup crushed corn flakes, apple slices. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Roll out other half of pastry same size. Place over apples. Moisten edges with milk and pinch top layer to bottom. Place 2 egg whites into a mixing bowl and beat until stiff peaks form. Brush evenly over top crust. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 1 hour.
Glaze:
Combine all ingredients and drizzle over the top of the danish as soon as it comes out of the oven.
