Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 large egg
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup minced onion
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 garlic cloves, minced, divided
- 1 (8-ounce)package, or 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup thinly sliced onion
- 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sherry
- 1 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
In a medium bowl, mix together the beef, egg, pepper, breadcrumbs, minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 garlic clove. Shape into 3-1/2 inch thick patties.
Spray a large non-stick skillet with cooking spray and place over medium heat. Add the patties, and cook for 4 minutes on each side until thoroughly cooked. Remove the burgers, cove, and set aside.
Increase heat to medium-high. Add the mushrooms and sliced onions. Crush the thyme with your fingers and cook for 3 minutes. Sprinkle with the flour and stir. Add the sherry and broth and cook for 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper, and return the burgers to the skillet. Cook for 2 minutes, until thoroughly heated through.
