Fresh Spaghetti Sauce w/ Meatballs 0 Picture


  • 8 oz hot Italian sausage links
  • 8 medium tomatoes, peeled and cored
  • 1 med. Onion
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 lb ground beef/turkey
  • ½ cup fine bread crumbs
  • ½ lb fresh mushrooms, sliced

Step 1

Cut sausages into 1 inch pieces; brown slowly in small skillet.

Place tomatoes, onion, oregano and 1 tsp salt in blender or food processor. Run long enough to chop the onion (or chop tomatoes and onions with a sharp knife)

Place tomato mixture in a large saucepan; add tomato paste and garlic; bring to a boil – allow to simmer
Drain sausages on paper towels; add to simmering sauce

Combine meat, bread crumbs and salt & pepper and form into balls and add to simmering sauce. It is not necessary to brown the meatballs

Cover pan and continue cooking about 2 hours over low heat.

Fifteen minutes or so before sauce is finished add mushrooms and remove garlic

Serve over cooked pasta – it may be frozen
