Ingredients
- Dough:
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 4 1/2 cups flour more for dusting
- 2 T butter
- 2 T. sugar
- 1 T. salt
- Topping:
- 3 T. butter melted
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1/8 to 1/4 t. garlic powder
- pinch of oregano
Preparation
Step 1
*Make the Dough*
1. place 1/4 cup warm water in the bowl of a mixer, spinkle with yeast and set aside until foamy if doesn't foam add sugar @ 5 min. add flour, butter, sugar 9if didn't), fine salt and 1 1/4 c to 2 T. warm water, mix with paddle until slightly sticky dough forms @ 5 min
2. knead dough by hand on a floured surface until very smooth and soft @ 3 min. Roll into 2 ft long log, cut into 16 1 1/2 inch pieces. kneed each piece and shape into a 7 inch breadstick. place on baking sheet cover with cloth and let rise until doubled @ 45 min (more is not better)
*Cook*
1. preheat oven to 400
2. brush the breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle with salt
3. cook for @ 15 min
*Topping & Finish*
1. mix salt with garlic powder and oregano
2. brush warm breadsticks with melted butter and spinkle with flavored salt
