Date Nut Cake


This recipe came from my mother-in-law, Alma T Horne. It is a southern favorite.

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 lb chopped dates
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 1 qt pecans
  • 1 c plain flour
  • 4 eggs


Cooking time 150mins


Step 1

Chop nuts and mix with dates.
Mix in flour and baking powder.
Separate eggs.
Beat egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy.
Melt butter, let cool slightly, pour over dates & nuts, mixing well.
Add sugar mixture, stirring well.
Beat egg whites until fluffy and add to rest of ingredients.
Line regular sized loaf pan with Reynolds release foil (release side up).
Pour cake batter into pan.
Bake at 225 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.
May require extra baking time.
