FRENCH TOAST

  • 8 slices (3/4-inch) French bread
  • 1 C milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 T orange juice
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1/2 t nutmeg
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • 1/3 C butter
  • 1/4 C brown sugar
  • 1/2 C pecans, chopped
  • 1 T butter

Preparation

Step 1

Cut bread and arrange in a 13"x9" cake pan. Mix milk, eggs, juice, sugar, nutmeg and vanilla. Pour over bread. Turn slices of bread over once. Set in refrigerator overnight. Melt a third cup margarine in jelly roll pan at 400 degrees in oven. Arrange slices of bread in jelly roll pan and bake for 25 minutes. Mix brown sugar, pecans and one tablespoon margarine together. Sprinkle over top and broil 5 inches from heat. Watch closely until bubbly and light brown.
