Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbs. yellow cornmeal
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil
  • 1 Tbs. yellow cornmeal
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 pkg (1 1/4 - 1 3/4-oz.) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 pkg. (16-oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 c. shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • Taco sauce, if desired

Preparation

Step 1

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
Combine flour, 2 Tbs. cornmeal, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the milk and oil; stir until the dough clings together to form a ball. Turn onto lightly floured surface; knead 5 times. Roll dough between sheets of waxed paper to a 12-inch round. Turn under edge of dough and pinch to form a standing rim. Prick bottom several times with a fork. Sprinkle the 1 Tbs. of cornmeal over the top. Cook on High for 5 - 6 minutes (until it isn't doughy). Top with the can of refried beans followed by the cooked hamburger mixture. (Cook hamburger on High for 5-6 minutes then add the onion, taco seasoning and water and simmer all four ingredients for 3 - 4 minutes.) Top the hamburger mixture with the cheddar cheese. When the dough, hamburger mixture and cheese is all together, microwave the whole tostada for 3 - 4 minutes.

REGULAR DIRECTIONS:
