BUTTER COOKIES (SPRITZ)

A standard family favorite at Christmas time were these butter or spritz cookies.

Ingredients

• 2 2/3 c. flour
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1 c. butter
• 1 c. sugar
• 1 unbeaten egg
• 2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Sift together the flour and salt. Cream together the butter and sugar before adding the egg and vanilla. Beat well. Add the dry ingredients and mix well.
Divide the dough into five parts for coloring, if desired. Press dough through cookie press using various discs to make desired shapes. Bake at 375° for 7-10 minutes until golden brown.
