Ingredients

  • 2 cups cold water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced (approximately 8 cups)
  • 1 jar caramel sauce
  • 1 tub whipped dessert topping
  • Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  • Sliced almonds (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, vanilla, spices and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and continue to boil until sugar is dissolved and the mixture starts to thicken, approximately 5 minutes.

2. Add apples and return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender and the mixture begins to thicken, about 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for about 1 hour. The mixture will thicken as it cools.

3. Place 1 slice of cheesecake or whatever desert you want to use on a plate. Top with 1/4 cup of apple mixture. Drizzle caramel over cheesecake and apples.

4. Garnish with a dollop of dessert topping and a cinnamon stick. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
