German Kuchen

Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • one peach or apple
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • butter to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 375. Mix sugar, shortening, and egg. Add milk and flour. Continue stirring. Add baking powder and salt. Pour into 8x8 inch greased pan.

Mix 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour. Sprinkle half of the mixture over the batter. Peel and slice an apple or peach and cover batter with slices. Sprinkle other half of mixture over fruit and sprinkle 1/2 tsp cinnamon over top. Dot with butter if desired. Bake for 30 minutes.
