Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups pastry (or cake) flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1 cup seedless raisins
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening and sugar; add well beaten eggs and milk. Sift flour, salt and baking powder and add to the shortening and sugar mixture. (If dough seems stiff, add a little more milk). Divide the dough in half and to one part add the molasses, seedless raisins, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Use long narrow pan and bake the dark part for 20 minutes. Take out of the oven and spread the white part on top and return it to the oven and bake until done. It comes out with dark cake on bottom and white on top.
