CARAMEL COATING FOR APPLES

Aunt Millie (Hartzell) used golden delicious apples from her trees with this caramel coating.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. light karo
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 5/8 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. half & half
  • Pinch salt

Preparation

Step 1

In a saucepan, put 1/2 of the half & half with the rest of the ingredients. Cook till the mixture forms a firm ball. Slowly add the rest of the half & half stirring constantly.
Cut apples in half and core them. Place cut side down on waxed paper and pour the caramel coating over each half.

VARIATION: Add 1 square of baking chocolate near the end.
