Dal Fry

Ingredients
- 1 cup split pigeon pea
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 1 tomato finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic finely chopped
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- 1 tsp dry mango powder (amchur)
- 2 tsp coriander leaves finely chopped
- 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Salt to taste
Preparation
Step 1
1. Heat half of the ghee in a pan. Add half of the chopped onion, garlic &
sauté till golden.
2. Add turmeric powder, dal, 2 cups of water & salt to taste. Stir, bring
to a boil. Lower the heat, simmer for twenty minutes.
3. Mix mango powder & simmer for another fifteen minutes.
4. Heat remaining ghee in another pan. Add cumin seeds. When they begin to
change colour add asafoetida remaining onion, garlic & sauté till pink.
5. Add red chilli powder & sauté for 2 to 3 mins.
6. Add this seasoning to the dal, simmer for 2 mins & remove from heat.
7. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice.
