Chocolate Pecan Squares

Ingredients

  • Bottom Layer:
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 lb chilled butter cut into pieces
  • Topping:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped toasted pecans
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease the sides and bottoms of 9" square pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper.
Bottom:
Place flour,white sugar, brown sugar, salt and butter in a food procesor. Pulse until well combined or the mixture has the texture of bread crumbs. Pat the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until just beginning to turn golden. Remove from oven and cool.
Topping:
In a medium sized bowl, mix together eggs, corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and salt. When well combined, add the pecans and chocolate chips. pour the topping over the cooled base. Place in oven and bkae 30 to 40 minutes or until the topping looks crisp and slightly puffy. Allow to cool in pan. Run knife around edge of the pan and cut into squares.
