Tempura Batter

A perfect light batter for shrimp, fish & chicken -- or try your favorite veggies tempura style! Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Great for appetizers, or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup ice water

Preparation

Step 1

Sift dry ingredients together in a medium size bowl.

In a separate bowl, beat egg slowly and mix with ice water. It is important that the water is cold.

Add dry ingredients to water mixture and mix gently.

Make sure that whatever you are frying are dry to make sure the batter sticks. Place in the deep fat fryer and cook until browned.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
