  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • ½ c. lukewarm water
  • ¾ c. Shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk or milk
  • 5 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tbsp. sugar

Directions:
1. In a small container, dissolve yeast in warm water, let stand for 5 minutes.
2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the dry ingredients.
3. Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
4. Add milk and yeast mixture and beat until well combined.
5. Roll out the dough to ¼ inch deep. Cut with a cookie cutter and place on a greased cookie sheet.
6. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
*Dough can be refrigerated for up to one-week.
