Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 5 to 7 c. flour

Preparation

Step 1

Measure water and yeast into large bowl. Stir in other ingredients except flour. Add the flour, a little at first, beating until a smoother batter is formed. Add remaining flour. Knead well. Tear off pieces and form into balls the size of walnuts.
Melt 3/4 c. margarine, and roll each ball until coated. Then roll in mixture of 3/4 c. sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts.
Place a layer of balls in greased tube pan until they barely touch one another. Then arrange a nest of balls on top of these. Let rise until double. Bake at 375º for 40-45 minutes. Loosen from pan. Invert pan so butter and sugar run over bread
