SWEET DOUGH

  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. luke warm water
  • 6 tsp. sugar
  • 6 envelopes of yeast
  • 6 well beaten eggs
  • 6 c. sifted flour
  • 6 c. sifted flour

Preparation

Step 1

Scald milk and add sugar, salt and shortening. Cool the above to lukewarm. Measure in a bowl the lukewarm water, sugar, yeast and let stand 10 minutes and then stir well. Stir yeast mixture into the milk mixture. Add eggs and 6 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in the additional 6 cups flour. Put dough on lightly floured board. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl and brush top of the dough with melted shortening. Cover. Let rise until double the bulk. Punch down the dough and turn out on lightly floured board. Form into rolls or shape like crescent rolls. Cook for 20 minutes at 375.
