Grainburgers

This mixture will keep for several days covered, in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup rice, uncooked
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup green pepper, chopped
  • 1/3 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/3 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 egg, optional
  • 1/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup wheat germ
  • Soy flour or other flour
  • Tamari soy sauce, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cayenne pepper, to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Rice should be sticky when cooked. Cook rice in a pot of water and salt. Cool and add the vegetables. Stir in the egg if desired. Add grains and enough soy flour to hold mixture together. Season to taste. Make into 9 patties. If patty seems too sticky, dip in flour. Brown in oil, on both sides, in hot skillet. Serve with lettuce and tomatoes.
