Orange Sugar Cookies

These are very good; this was Aunt Dorothy's recipe. The cookie is soft.

Ingredients

• 2 cups sugar
• 1 cup shortening (half oleo or butter)
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 2 tsp soda in buttermilk (pour out half of above milk first)
• Grated rind and juice of 2 oranges
• 5 cups sifted flour
• 1 tsp salt
• Frosting
• 1 pound powdered sugar
• 1/4 pound butter
• juice and rind of one orange

Preparation

Step 1

Cream sugar and shortening.

Add eggs

Alternate buttermilk, orange juice and flour mixture. Mix well.

Bake cookies in moderate oven.

Mix sugar, butter juice and rind of orange. Frost warm cookies.
