Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 12 large cabbage leaves
  • 1 1/4 lb. ground beef
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 8 oz. cans Hunts tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice or vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand for 5 minutes or until limp. Drain. Combine next seven ingredients. Place a medium portion of meat mixture in centre of each leaf. Fold sides of each leaf over meat mixture and roll up and fasten with toothpicks or string. Brown in hot oil in very large skillet. Pour in tomato sauce. Combine brown sugar, water and vinegar and pour over cabbage rolls. Simmer covered one hour
