Creamy White Frosting
- 1 cup shortening
- 3-4 tablespoons milk
- 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla
- Optional: ½ teaspoon of almond, lemon or orange flavoring
- 3 1/2-4 cups confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar)
In a large mixing bowl fitted with the flat beater, combine the shortening, vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of milk.
On low speed slowly add the powdered sugar in small batches.
Check thickness and add the last tablespoon of milk if needed.
Store in a covered container labeled with kitchen and period number.
Note: For competition frosting instead of using regular vanilla, substitute clear vanilla and clear almond flavoring.
For chocolate frosting stir in unsweetened cocoa powder, sift first if lumpy, and additional milk to desired consistency.
