Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless sirloin steak, trimmed of fat

  • 6 scallions, trimmed & thinly sliced

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 6 tablespoons pear or apple sauce

  • 6 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablepsoon rice or cider vinegar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 3 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar

  • 1 pinch salt

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

1. Score steak deeply on both sides (nearly through to the other side) in a 1-inch crisscross diamond pattern. Cover in plastic wrap and pound lightly with a mallet or heavy pan to tenderize 2. In a shallow dish large enough to hold the steak, combine scallions, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, oil, sugar and pepper. Add the steak and stir to coat with the marinade. Cover and marinate in the refigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 8 hours, turning from time to time. 3. Grill until medium rare (about 4 minutes per side) 4. Slice into thin strips and serve at once with rice and vegetables
