POTATO GRUYERE GRATIN

Ingredients

  • 1 small head cauliflower
  • 1 1/2 pounds potatoes
  • peel and slice them very thin
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tblsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 oz shredded gruyere cheese
  • salt

Preparation

Step 1

preheat oven to 350 degrees
grease shallow 3 quart baking dish
boil cauliflower just until tender
make sure the cauliflower is quartered and sliced thin before you boil it
drain thoroughly
in 12 inch skillet heat potatoes and milk just until boiling stirring occasionally
reduce to simmer and cook for 7 to 10 minutes just until tender
in small bowl stire water and cornstarch until cornstarch is dissolved
stir in potato mixture and simmer for 3 minutes
stir in cauliflower, nutmeg and half of the cheese plus 1/2 teas salt
transfer half the mixture to baking dish
sprinkle the other half of cheese on top and then add the other half of mixture
bake for 30 to 35 minutes until all is tender
wait 15 minutes after you take it out of the oven to serve
