Ingredients

  • 2 T olive oil, divided
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, minced (optional)
  • 1 T chili powder
  • 2 t dried oregano leaves
  • 1/4 t black pepper
  • 1 c tomato-based chili sauce
  • 1 T worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 c shredded monterey jack cheese
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped (optional)buns

Preparation

Step 1

In a skillet, heat 1 T oil over medium heat. Add turkey and cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until no longer pink. With a slotted spoon, transfer to slow cooker.

Add remaining oil to pan. Add onions and cook, stirring until softened. Add garlic, jalapeno pepper, if using, chili powder, oregano, salt and pepper and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add chili sauce and worcestershire sauce and bring to a boil.

Transfer mixture to slow cooker. cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Add cheese and green pepper. Cover and cook on high for 20 mins, until cheese is melted and pepper softened. Spoon over buns.
