Mauna Kea French Toast

Recipe from mom -- she got on their Hawaiian trip in 1982.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf high quality uncut white bread
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1/2 pint Half and Half
  • Powdered sugar
  • Butter
  • Maple (or other) syrup

Preparation

Step 1

Cut three slices from bread about 1" thick and remove crusts. Mix eggs and half and half. Soak bread slices overnight in this mixture in a dish about 2" deep. Cook slices slowly on griddle or grill for 8-10 minutes until pieces are golden brown outside and have a rich, custard-like consistency inside.

Sprinkle powdered sugar over slices. Serve with butter and syrup on the side.
