Ingredients

  • 8 all-beef frankfurters (such as Applegate Farms)
  • 3 cup(s) hearty ale
  • 1/4 cup(s) yellow mustard
  • 2 large onions, cut into 1/2-inch rounds, skewered to lay flat
  • 2 whole(s) sour pickles, chopped
  • 8 hot dog buns

Preparation

Step 1

1. Pierce each frank in several places with a toothpick and marinate in 2 3/4 cups ale, refrigerated overnight or up to 24 hours.

2. Heat grill to medium. Combine the mustard and remaining 1/4 cup ale in a small bowl; set aside. Grill the skewered onions until browned -- about 8 minutes per side. Place the franks on the grill until crisp -- 8 to 10 minutes.

3. Place the franks on buns, top each with about 2 teaspoons chopped pickles and some of the grilled onions, and drizzle with mustard sauce. Serve immediately.
