OLD-FASHIONED CHESS PIE

Ingredients

  • Directions:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 heaping tablespoons flour
  • 1 heaping tablespoon cornmeal
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 (12-inch) pie shell, unbaked
  • Combine sugar, flour, and cornmeal; mix well.
  • Add butter and stir well.
  • Add beaten eggs, mixing well.
  • Add buttermilk and vanilla; blend thoroughly.
  • Pour mixture into pie shell and bake at 425 F. for 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 325 F. and bake 30 more minutes.
  • When pie begins to brown, cover with a sheet of aluminum foil to prevent deep browning or burning
