This recipe won 1st place at the Nicollet County Fair in 1981 and it stills remains our family favorite for banana bread. I’ve modified it ever so slightly over the years, but the end result remains moist and flavorful.

How to make it
Mix together butter, oil, sugars and eggs.
Add mashed bananas, sour cream and vanilla, stirring together well.
Mix in flour, baking soda and salt, stirring until it is well blended.
Pour into 1 greased large loaf pan or 3 small loaf pans (I always use 3 of the 7 3/8 x 3 5/8 inch loaf pans - I think it gives the best results).
Sprinkle additional brown sugar generously over top of batter, using your hand to gently pat some of it into the batter.
Variations and Suggestions: Add any of the following – miniature chocolate chips, toffee bits, shredded coconut, chopped pecans or macadamia nuts.
Try toasting your banana bread – spread hot toasted bread with butter and even add a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar and some slices of banana, or top with a combination of honey and peanut butter, or spread hot toasted bread with some Nutella…the possibilities are endless!
Use slices of banana bread to make your French toast. Just dust the finished product with some powdered sugar, or a little powdered sugar glaze, or spread on some Nutella, and maple syrup is good on it, too…you’ve gotta try it!

I am going to make this tomorrow...sounds delish!
It's baking right now and smells divine! I'm going to make a "Rum/Cinnamon Whipped Cream" to serve with it!
I'm going to make this right now!!!
I love banana bread, easy to make and was finished rather quickly! just about to make a second batch- might add walnuts this time for a change.
didn't have any sour cream on hand, but I did have plain yoghurt. I can't imagine there's that much difference. I'm trying it now, as I type this, it's in the oven. Oh, and I added chopped macadamia nuts
I love that this recipe has sour cream in it. I really like what sc does to baked goods. Thank you! I need to get this baked before the summer heat hits us!
I'm mad at myself for not checking your recipes first before I tried a new Banana Bread recipe from the Net (which came out like a banana brick!)! I'm sticking with your recipe from now on. Its a Keeper, Krumkake! Thanks again for adding to my recipe collection!
Of course, I added chopped walnuts (love nuts) ALSO used one cup of WW flour and one cup white flour and used Splenda brown sugar instead of white/brown sugar.. turned out fantastic! Thank you for posting it... yummmmmmmm it's so good!!
This sounds very good, I have some banana's I'm going to have to do something with if they don't get eaten soon. I'll give your recipe a try. Sour Cream usually makes it very moist along with really ripe banana's. Great post.
I am sending this to my daughter.. she is addicted to banana and pumpkin bread! When I read it to her... she said two words..."SEND NOW" Thanks Krum
